It is family owned, and the service is excellent. The food is delicious, really authentic and full of flavor. I've gone a couple of times already and have loved anything I've ordered off the menu, the tostadas are something I order very frequently. The cocktails are also so good and refreshing. I've never had a bad meal or experience here. During the warmer months they offer seating in the backyard. I will definitely continue to Reggie to Coszcal. read less

They have a great bar/alcohol/cocktail selection and excellent service. There's space indoors, in a back patio, and in the front by the sidewalk. It was decently busy on a Saturday night on the earlier side (all indoor tables were full and several in the back patio were taken).
We had the Sopa Azteca (really amazing--maybe the best tortilla soup I've had), Chile Relleno (delicious), Chicken Enchiladas (solid, but not as good as our other items), and the Plato de Barro with steak and chicken (very very tasty meats).
I'm looking forward to coming back here! read less

The ambiance is laid back but very well appointed, the service attentive and super polite and the prices definitely reasonable considering the quality of the ingredients. The queso fundido with roasted vegetables was delicious and plentiful and the mixed ceviche featured very fresh shrimp and flounder alongside perfectly ripe avocados but the real star was the panzita -- a spicy tripe soup akin to menudo featuring a complex and deeply flavorful guajillo pepper broth. Served alongside a cheese quesadilla (I guess that's how it's served in Guanajuato?) for dipping it was a perfect Saturday lunch.
I can't envision a trip down to Bay Ridge without eating here as it along with Karam are heads above the dozen or so places I've tried in the neighborhood. read less

We came on a weekday when it was quiet and sat in the backyard. The food here blew us away. I had the pollo con mole. The food had lots of flavor, the chicken was tender. The beans looked simple but really left a great impression. The elote was great too I'm glad I didn't skip it. Even the tostones was perfect. I was surprised that everything we tried on the menu was this good. Coszcal de Allende didn't have any weak points. My only suggestion would be to play music in the backyard. read less

This is something you have to experience on your own. It is quite possibly the best Mexican spot I've tried and this is coming from someone who lived in CA for 5yrs and tried all types of Mexican food. This is the spot. Do yourself the favor and come here. You won't be disappointed. From the decor, the costumer service, everything is on point.

They have the most impressive mezcal selection that I've seen in the world. The shelves of the bar are packed two or three rows deep with a bottles. It's overwhelming. They have a menu with some tasting notes but the menu is outdated as the pricing and selection have both changed. I decided to focus on Del Maguay distillery which they had over a dozen varieties from. I further narrowed down the options by focusing on the non-Espandin agaves leaving me with seven options - Tepextate silvestre, Papalome, Tobala, Chichicapa, San Pablo , Minero and Pechuga. I decided to sample one ounce of each and put together an order for the tasting. The waiter was incredibly patient and accommodating of my bizarre antics.
With my mezcal plan in place, I turned my attention to the food menu. Again, I found the food menu a bit overwhelming. It was poorly organized which made it difficult to figure out the portions as well as the signature items. We ordered some guacamole and chips to share for the able and I ended up going with the spicy tripe soup and the Chile rellono.
Based on the pricing and the location of the soup on the menu, I thought it would be an appetizer. I was wrong. It was an entree portion of some absolutely delicious soup. Super rich broth. It was served with tripe and bones which still had marrow inside and cartilage around it. One of the best preparations of tripe and cartilage. This dish alone was enough for me but I had already committed to the Chile rellono so that came next.
The stuffed pepper was delicious and came in a outstanding sauce. Once I finished the pepper, I dumped my rice in the dish to soak up all the flavorful sauce. I probably could have used up a whole baguette cleaning up the sauce in the bowl.
Given that I just ate two entrees, I was out for dessert. The ladies I was with ordered a couple desserts and preferred the chocolate tres leches which I haven't seen elsewhere. It seemed like they really enjoyed it.
The service was very attentive, hospitable, and accommodating. My wife wanted to completely customize an item and they were very kind to accommodate her. read less

You can't taste the freshness of the food as well the Mexican drinks . The waitress was so nice and recommended us to try the limeades with club soda and she was right it's so much better. If you're looking for freshness and quality in food with good service this is the spot. They also deliver if you can't make it , if you can visit it one avenue away from the train station which was super convenient for us. The venue itself is super chill family oriented, and very cultural vibe from the color on the wall, sculptures - to the detail on the tables. Highly recommend read less

But my previous review focused too much on the tortas. I actually order several dishes way more common than tortas. A few to note: the Sopa Azteca (watch out it's spicy), the Enchiladas with green sauce, and Carnitas de Pancho.
Anyway, this place is a must. But a word of advice, don't expect New American Mexican food, or Tex Mex. This is more like top quality traditional Mexican food. I believe some of the lower reviews are from people that expected one of the other aforementioned styles of "Mexican food". read less
