We came on a weekday when it was quiet and sat in the backyard. The food here blew us away. I had the pollo con mole. The food had lots of flavor, the chicken was tender. The beans looked simple but really left a great impression. The elote was great too I'm glad I didn't skip it. Even the tostones was perfect. I was surprised that everything we tried on the menu was this good. Coszcal de Allende didn't have any weak points. My only suggestion would be to play music in the backyard. read less

They have a great bar/alcohol/cocktail selection and excellent service. There's space indoors, in a back patio, and in the front by the sidewalk. It was decently busy on a Saturday night on the earlier side (all indoor tables were full and several in the back patio were taken).
We had the Sopa Azteca (really amazing--maybe the best tortilla soup I've had), Chile Relleno (delicious), Chicken Enchiladas (solid, but not as good as our other items), and the Plato de Barro with steak and chicken (very very tasty meats).
I'm looking forward to coming back here! read less

It is family owned, and the service is excellent. The food is delicious, really authentic and full of flavor. I've never had a bad meal or experience here. During the warmer months they offer seating in the backyard. I will definitely continue to Reggie to Coszcal. read less

The food is always delicious. You can't go wrong with any of the platos fuertes, but our particular favorites are the chile relleno, cochinita pibil, and the mole con pollo. We had a wonderful lunch at this small, family-run restaurant, and their spacious backyard is perfect for these socially-distanced times.
We've gotten delivery before (mostly burritos and enchiladas, all delicious), but this was our first time eating there. We have always liked their guacamole and totopos, and it was an even better starter in person. The freshly fried chips were also a good match for the complimentary salsa.
The majority of their lunch specials were under $10, and we got chicken tacos and carnitas de pancho, both of which came with rice and beans. Both were good, but the carnitas was the better of the two and probably our favorite thing that we ate at lunch. Looking forward to returning soon! read less

After seeing all the beautiful pictures on yelp I knew I had to make a visit. I highly recommend getting one of those platters as your main, they come with a little bit of everything. I ordered the steak with tinga platter and it came with tortillas, guacamole, queso , beans and rice. We also got the pollo alpastor that is basically a deconstructed pollo alpastor taco on a skewer with grilled pineapple. If you're looking for a good side to share besides guac and chips I would get the ceviche. It is delicious but the only complaint is that they are inconsistent with the order. Last time we got the mixed ceviche with fish, shrimp and octopus. Going back recently 2 weeks later, they had said if we want it mixed the same way it would cost $6 more which will bring it closer to $19! In which case it is no longer worth it. read less

I have never had anything here I didnt like. Theres a back yard garden for outdoor dining and safe social distancing indoors and out front. The ambiance is laid back but very well appointed, the service attentive and super polite and the prices definitely reasonable considering the quality of the ingredients. The queso fundido with roasted vegetables was delicious and plentiful and the mixed ceviche featured very fresh shrimp and flounder alongside perfectly ripe avocados but the real star was the panzita -- a spicy tripe soup akin to menudo featuring a complex and deeply flavorful guajillo pepper broth. Served alongside a cheese quesadilla (I guess that's how it's served in Guanajuato?) for dipping it was a perfect Saturday lunch.
I can't envision a trip down to Bay Ridge without eating here as it along with Karam are heads above the dozen or so places I've tried in the neighborhood. read less

I got the same thing I always order when trying out a new mexican place: cheese flautas, rice and refried beans, and agua de jamaica. All three were spot on and delicious.
The only thing I would say isn't so great about this restaurant is how they list the rice and beans as a separate side rather than giving you rice and beans with your meal. You get 3 flautas and it costs $9 but does not bring rice and beans... which I find a little pricey. Nonetheless, I will probably still order from here in the future because I can overlook price for good quality sometimes. read less

Their food is flavorful and fresh. I absolutely love their shrimp quesadillas and burritos. If the weather's nice, definitely sit outside-- they have a lovely setup out back. It kind of transports you out of little 'ole Bay Ridge for a bit-- reminds me a bit of my time in San Juan, Puerto Rico :)
