After seeing all the beautiful pictures on yelp I knew I had to make a visit. I highly recommend getting one of those platters as your main, they come with a little bit of everything. I ordered the steak with tinga platter and it came with tortillas, guacamole, queso , beans and rice. We also got the pollo alpastor that is basically a deconstructed pollo alpastor taco on a skewer with grilled pineapple. If you're looking for a good side to share besides guac and chips I would get the ceviche. It is delicious but the only complaint is that they are inconsistent with the order. Last time we got the mixed ceviche with fish, shrimp and octopus. Going back recently 2 weeks later, they had said if we want it mixed the same way it would cost $6 more which will bring it closer to $19! In which case it is no longer worth it. read less

They have the most impressive mezcal selection that I've seen in the world. The shelves of the bar are packed two or three rows deep with a bottles. It's overwhelming. They have a menu with some tasting notes but the menu is outdated as the pricing and selection have both changed. I decided to focus on Del Maguay distillery which they had over a dozen varieties from. I further narrowed down the options by focusing on the non-Espandin agaves leaving me with seven options - Tepextate silvestre, Papalome, Tobala, Chichicapa, San Pablo , Minero and Pechuga. I decided to sample one ounce of each and put together an order for the tasting. The waiter was incredibly patient and accommodating of my bizarre antics.
With my mezcal plan in place, I turned my attention to the food menu. Again, I found the food menu a bit overwhelming. It was poorly organized which made it difficult to figure out the portions as well as the signature items. We ordered some guacamole and chips to share for the able and I ended up going with the spicy tripe soup and the Chile rellono.
Based on the pricing and the location of the soup on the menu, I thought it would be an appetizer. I was wrong. It was an entree portion of some absolutely delicious soup. Super rich broth. It was served with tripe and bones which still had marrow inside and cartilage around it. One of the best preparations of tripe and cartilage. This dish alone was enough for me but I had already committed to the Chile rellono so that came next.
The stuffed pepper was delicious and came in a outstanding sauce. Once I finished the pepper, I dumped my rice in the dish to soak up all the flavorful sauce. I probably could have used up a whole baguette cleaning up the sauce in the bowl.
Given that I just ate two entrees, I was out for dessert. The ladies I was with ordered a couple desserts and preferred the chocolate tres leches which I haven't seen elsewhere. It seemed like they really enjoyed it.
The service was very attentive, hospitable, and accommodating. My wife wanted to completely customize an item and they were very kind to accommodate her. read less

The ambiance is laid back but very well appointed, the service attentive and super polite and the prices definitely reasonable considering the quality of the ingredients. The queso fundido with roasted vegetables was delicious and plentiful and the mixed ceviche featured very fresh shrimp and flounder alongside perfectly ripe avocados but the real star was the panzita -- a spicy tripe soup akin to menudo featuring a complex and deeply flavorful guajillo pepper broth. Served alongside a cheese quesadilla (I guess that's how it's served in Guanajuato?) for dipping it was a perfect Saturday lunch.

We had a wonderful lunch at this small, family-run restaurant, and their spacious backyard is perfect for these socially-distanced times.
We've gotten delivery before (mostly burritos and enchiladas, all delicious), but this was our first time eating there. We have always liked their guacamole and totopos, and it was an even better starter in person. The freshly fried chips were also a good match for the complimentary salsa.
The majority of their lunch specials were under $10, and we got chicken tacos and carnitas de pancho, both of which came with rice and beans. Both were good, but the carnitas was the better of the two and probably our favorite thing that we ate at lunch. Looking forward to returning soon! read less

The portions are huge but tasty, the Ceviche is amazing, and most importantly the Brunch options are very good! They serve all their food in authentic Mexican Earthenware and the Guacamole is served in cute Aztec style mortar and pestle made from volcanic rock. The garden outside is nice and accommodates large parties. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this place! read less

Their food is flavorful and fresh. I absolutely love their shrimp quesadillas and burritos. If the weather's nice, definitely sit outside-- they have a lovely setup out back. It kind of transports you out of little 'ole Bay Ridge for a bit-- reminds me a bit of my time in San Juan, Puerto Rico :)
Don't forget to compliment the chef! Great little family business-- the new upgrades they've implemented definitely has made a difference. Can't believe I used to just pass by this place all the time. Don't miss out on this one read less

We came on a weekday when it was quiet and sat in the backyard. The food here blew us away. I had the pollo con mole. The food had lots of flavor, the chicken was tender. The beans looked simple but really left a great impression. The elote was great too I'm glad I didn't skip it. Even the tostones was perfect. I was surprised that everything we tried on the menu was this good. Coszcal de Allende didn't have any weak points. My only suggestion would be to play music in the backyard. read less

The drinks all looked great, sangria, beers, wine.
I expect I will always try to come here when I get to Brooklyn/Bay Ridge.

Prior to the pandemic, I'd occasionally pop in for happy hour. Finally made it back this afternoon for a late lunch. The ensalada de sandía was a nice mix of watermelon, cotija cheese, cucumber, avocado, and cilantro. The sopa azteca was warming and satisfying, with lots of tortilla and chicken and a dollop of crema. The tostones were some of the best I've had, and the roasted garlic was the perfect garnish. Their hibiscus drink was also top notch, the right amount of sweet. Hoping to head back again soon! read less
